Before linking accounts, identify which connection you are making and what you want it to do. Robinhood Portfolio Overview brings supported outside accounts into Robinhood. Linking Robinhood to another application sends supported account information into that application. Connecting a bank for transfers and transferring investments are different actions again.
The useful comparison is the information, permissions, and workflow you need. Read-only access limits transaction authority, but it does not mean no financial information is shared or that a connection can never fail. This applies to Mezzi as well as other applications.
Method: Mezzi publishes this guide. We reviewed official Robinhood documentation and Mezzi's current policy on September 26, 2026, alongside our Mezzi application review. We did not connect a reader's Robinhood account, measure sync reliability, or conduct a comparative security audit. For the broader product comparison, see Robinhood Portfolio Overview and Mezzi.
Four different meanings of linking
| Action | Purpose | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Add an outside account to Robinhood Portfolio Overview | See a broader portfolio inside Robinhood | Supported data, update timing, and linked-account terms |
| Connect Robinhood to another financial application | Use account information in that application's workflow | Recipient, permission scope, available fields, and revocation route |
| Link a bank for transfers | Enable a funding relationship | Transfer authority, account identity, and applicable terms |
| Transfer investments to a different provider | Change where assets are held | Eligible assets, transfer process, costs, and any management instructions |
Do not treat a request to view information as permission to move investments. Conversely, do not assume that a funding connection is merely an informational view. Read the actual flow rather than relying on the word “link.” Robinhood publishes separate guidance for bank linking and asset transfers.
What Robinhood Portfolio Overview currently does
Robinhood's Portfolio Overview documentation describes connected outside investment, retirement, and crypto accounts through Plaid. It shows holdings, allocation, and account values. External information generally refreshes daily; connection problems can delay it.
The chart measures balance changes, including deposits and withdrawals, rather than investment returns. Robinhood also explains that adding an external account affects past chart values, so the resulting history should not be assumed to reproduce an independently measured historical return series.
Current limitations include no manual account entry. Removing an account from the overview does not necessarily disconnect a separate transfer link. These details matter more than a generic claim that all aggregation is either safe or unsafe.
If the native overview supplies the view you need, it may be sufficient. If you need another workflow, identify the missing output before authorizing another data connection.
What a read-only connection does and does not mean
Read-only access concerns the authority of that connection. It does not mean the recipient sees no sensitive information. Holdings, account values, and transaction records can reveal important financial details even when the recipient cannot submit an order.
It also does not prove that two applications have identical data practices. Compare the applicable policy, service providers, sharing choices, retention, and account controls. Do not infer all those answers from the aggregator's brand or the presence of a lock icon.
Robinhood's third-party connections guidance says officially supported services do not ask for your Robinhood login credentials or password. It also distinguishes its restrictions on trading APIs from separate crypto API documentation. Follow the authorized connection flow and the current instructions for the product involved; a brokerage connection, a wallet connection, and a trading API should not be treated as interchangeable.
If an unexpected login alert appears, investigate it through the provider's official channel. Do not dismiss an alert solely because its timing seems convenient or because an article says a location difference is always harmless. A general guide cannot authenticate a particular session for you.
Five checks before you authorize a connection
1. Name the decision it will support
Write a specific purpose: understanding combined exposure, reviewing cash alongside investments, or tracking an outside account. This gives you a reason to evaluate the request and a way to decide whether the connection remains useful later.
If the purpose is simply curiosity about the interface, you may be able to explore public product information before sharing account data. If a connected trial is necessary, start with the information relevant to the test rather than assuming every account must be included.
2. Identify the recipient and requested access
Read the product name and permission description in the current flow. Confirm that the destination is the application you intended to use. Distinguish information access from transfer or trading authority.
Do not supply account secrets to a conversational assistant or paste them into an unrelated support message. Authentication belongs in the appropriate authorized provider flow. An article cannot substitute for checking that the actual screen matches the action you intended.
3. Check the information available after linking
A connection can succeed without supplying every field the application needs. Check balances, holdings, dates, and transaction history separately. If a tax question depends on cost basis or lots, verify those fields rather than assuming they arrived with the balance.
Make the missing information explicit. “Connected” and “complete enough for this decision” are different states. This is a data-quality question, not evidence that a provider has acted improperly.
4. Understand disconnection and deletion separately
Find the current method for stopping access before you need it. Then check whether deleting a local connection, revoking provider access, and requesting deletion of stored information are separate operations.
A device-session list is not automatically the same as a third-party authorization list. Follow the instructions for the actual connection rather than assuming that removing a device stops every data-sharing route. Retention rules can also apply after a connection ends.
5. Know where to resolve a mismatch
Use the institution for questions about its own account record or an unrecognized account event. Use the receiving application for questions about how it displays or processes connected data. A clear description of the field, date, and expected result is more useful than a broad claim that “sync is broken.”
Keep private records out of public support posts. If support needs sensitive information, use the provider's authorized channel and share only what is relevant to the issue.
Reconcile the data before acting on it
Start with a small example you can verify. Compare one holding's identity and quantity, one account balance, and a recent cash movement. Check the effective dates before deciding which display is wrong.
Suppose you move $5,000 from checking to a brokerage account. Before the transfer, the two accounts total $80,000. After completion, they still total $80,000 if nothing else changes. A temporary display of $85,000 may reflect inconsistent timing or duplicate treatment; it does not establish a $5,000 investment gain.
That example does not claim that any particular application automatically resolves pending transfers. It gives you a test to perform. If the mismatch remains unexplained, avoid relying on that total for a decision that depends on precision.
Check these fields independently
| Field | A useful comparison |
|---|---|
| Account identity | Does the connection represent the intended account? |
| Holdings | Do security identifiers and quantities match? |
| Cash | Are pending and settled amounts being treated consistently? |
| History | Is the available date range sufficient for the calculation? |
| Cost information | Are basis or lot fields present when needed? |
| Update time | Are you comparing records from the same point in time? |
A current total can be correct while historical transactions are incomplete. The reverse can also occur. Match the check to the question instead of expecting one successful comparison to validate everything.
Where Mezzi fits for a Robinhood investor
Mezzi is relevant when you want financial guidance that considers supported account information and your wider priorities. Its account groups include Investments, Banking, Other Assets, and Liabilities. AI Personalization lets you retain goals, rules, and preferences. Exposure X-Ray helps investigate underlying exposure in supported funds.
For example, a direct stock holding in one account may overlap with exposure inside funds elsewhere. The useful question is how much exposure exists in the available record and whether that concentration fits your intended plan. Identifying shared holdings does not automatically reduce expenses: costs depend on invested amounts and applicable expense rates, not the number of repeated company names.
The Mezzi account update explains that tax-lot availability varies by connection. Verify current Robinhood support and the fields available in your own account-linking flow. This guide does not promise that every Robinhood account type or every historical field is supported.
Mezzi plans include Free, Advisory at $399 annually, and Concierge at $999 annually. Concierge includes setup assistance and quarterly coaching. Mezzi does not execute trades or move money. Choose it for the guidance workflow, not a claim that connecting accounts guarantees tax savings or prevents every mistake.
Review Mezzi's data practices with the same care
Mezzi's privacy policy, updated August 25, 2026, describes read-only aggregation, information supplied directly by users, and processing through service providers. It states that data is not sold or used for targeted advertising, while also describing permitted sharing for service delivery, legal obligations, and other stated purposes.
The policy distinguishes third-party model-training restrictions from other processing and internal improvement uses. Collaboration can expose information to people you authorize, and some records may be retained for regulatory requirements. Read the full policy and current settings for the precise scope.
Those distinctions are useful because “no sale,” “no model training,” “read-only,” and “no sharing” are different claims. This guide does not call Mezzi risk-free, independently certified under an unverified standard, or categorically more secure than Robinhood or every other application.
Decide whether another connection is worth maintaining
After the evaluation, ask whether the new workflow answers the question that motivated it. If the native overview already does the job, another connection may add maintenance without enough benefit. If broader context or a different analysis is useful, keep a record of the inputs and responsibilities.
Review connections when you stop using a service or materially change how you organize finances. Use current provider instructions for revocation and data requests. Do not assume an old sequence of menu labels remains correct indefinitely.
The goal is a financial view you understand: what it contains, what it leaves out, how it updates, and who can use the information. That is a stronger foundation for a decision than either a security scare or an absolute safety promise.
Frequently asked questions
Is linking an account the same as transferring investments?
No. Information sharing, bank funding links, and asset transfers serve different purposes. Read the specific permission and action before proceeding. Connecting a view does not by itself mean you have chosen to move investments or delegate management.
Does read-only access mean no data is shared?
No. Read-only access limits transaction authority, but financial information can still be processed and shared as described in the relevant policy and permissions. Evaluate data use separately from the ability to move money.
Can I rely on a connected balance as an investment return?
Not by itself. Deposits, withdrawals, update timing, and missing history can affect the displayed balance. A return calculation needs the relevant records and a stated method. Reconcile the information needed for your specific question.
Does connecting Robinhood to Mezzi guarantee tax savings?
No. Available data and individual circumstances matter, and guidance does not execute a transaction or guarantee compliance. Verify relevant records and current rules before a tax-sensitive decision. This guide does not claim measured customer savings from linking an account.
Start with a clear question and verify the inputs. Explore Mezzi's guidance workflow, review the available connection information, and add the goals and constraints that matter to you.
