Your portfolio's look-through exposure

Visit the Concentration card for any of your accounts. Simply toggle on X-Ray to view your portfolio's estimated exposure based on ETF holdings. In the historical example shown, including covered fund holdings raised the displayed Apple exposure from 12% to 16% of that account. This is a change in the exposure calculation, not an investment return.

The arithmetic behind look-through exposure

Suppose a $100,000 portfolio contains $6,000 of a company directly and $50,000 in a fund that holds 4% in that company. The fund contributes an estimated $2,000 of indirect exposure, giving $8,000, or 8% of the portfolio, before other funds are considered. It does not mean you hold additional shares of the company in your brokerage account.

What does a top-holdings view leave out?

This launch emphasized the largest ETF holdings and top-ten comparisons. Those are useful for spotting major overlap, but they are not evidence that every holding in every fund is included. Check the fund-data date and covered accounts; fund weights change.

The named ETFs and companies above illustrate the release's workflow, not current recommendations. Before substituting one fund for another, look beyond the overlap shown here to its objective, fees, risks and tax consequences.
