An AI subscription can replace an advisory relationship only if you are prepared to replace the work that relationship performs. Buying the subscription does not itself eliminate a 1% AUM fee, transfer assets or give the application authority to manage investments.

Mezzi offers flat annual advice plans. That can be appealing for a self-directed investor, especially as portfolio value grows. The fair comparison also identifies who will implement decisions, coordinate professional work and maintain the process.

Start with the current engagement

List what your advisor actually does. Separate portfolio management, financial planning, meetings, administrative help and any coordination with other professionals. Check the agreement rather than assuming every 1% relationship includes the same services.

Then mark each task as essential, useful or unused. An unused service may be a reason to reconsider the arrangement. An essential service needs a clear replacement before you decide that a lower software bill solves the problem.

Fees matter because ongoing charges reduce the assets available to grow. The SEC encourages investors to understand both advisory and investment expenses. That does not mean the lowest fee is automatically the best service choice. Investor.gov fee guide

The simple fee arithmetic

At a hypothetical constant $1 million billable balance, a 1% annual fee is $10,000. Mezzi Advisory costs $399 annually, and Concierge costs $999 annually. The differences in headline charges are $9,601 and $9,001 respectively. Mezzi pricing

Those figures are not equivalent-service savings. They exclude investment expenses, other professional work, transition costs and the responsibilities you take on. If you keep the existing advisor and add Mezzi, the charges add together instead.

For the full compounding model and its assumptions, see the 1% fee on a $1 million portfolio. This article focuses on the replacement decision rather than presenting the same model as a forecast.

A replacement worksheet

Current task Possible replacement What to verify
Analyze the financial picture Connected advice and your review Account coverage and assumptions
Maintain investment allocation You or a managed provider Written process and execution responsibility
Prepare tax return Tax professional or filing workflow Actual scope and records
Draft legal documents Qualified legal service Jurisdiction and professional responsibility
Coordinate household decisions You, household collaborators or an advisor Ownership and follow-through
Provide continuing support Specific plan or engagement Access, frequency and limits

A spreadsheet or AI assistant can help organize the worksheet. It cannot determine that another professional's work is unnecessary simply because the fee appears large.

What Mezzi actually supplies

Mezzi connects supported Investments, Banking, Other Assets and Liabilities. You can include checking and savings, credit cards and manually entered real estate alongside investment accounts. AI Personalization adds goals, preferences and rules that affect the discussion. Exposure X-Ray helps investigate supported underlying fund exposure. Mezzi account groups

That can support a question such as: “How does our investment concentration relate to the cash reserved for a home purchase?” The answer can help organize a decision across accounts, provided the records and context are accurate.

Mezzi does not place the trades, transfer custody or file tax returns. Its advice workflow should not be described as automatically managing your entire portfolio. Verify the proposed action and implement it through the relevant institution.

Free includes aggregation and limited AI. Advisory is $399 annually. Concierge is $999 annually and includes additional support under its current plan terms. Compare those benefits with the work you would use; coaching support is not the same as full discretionary portfolio management. Current plans

A more complete cost example

Suppose a hypothetical replacement arrangement includes $399 for advice software, a $2,500 planning engagement and $1,000 for additional professional work. Its stated recurring cost is $3,899. Compared with a $10,000 advisory fee, the difference is $6,101 before other costs.

The professional amounts are invented worksheet inputs, not market averages or quotes. The example shows why the complete arrangement matters. Your actual replacement could cost less, more or provide a different scope that is hard to compare in one number.

Keep transition costs separate. An expense that occurs once should not be silently treated as a permanent annual cost, and a taxable sale should not be assumed necessary merely to change an advice arrangement.

When retaining an advisor can be sensible

If the relationship provides implementation or coordination you would not reliably perform, retaining it can be reasonable. You can still ask for a clearer scope, a different service tier or a review of fees.

Likewise, a self-directed investor with a manageable situation may prefer to take responsibility and pay for specific help as needed. Neither choice establishes greater sophistication. The relevant question is whether the arrangement fits the household and remains sustainable during difficult periods.

Identify the work a lower bill would leave behind

Imagine an advisor currently handles a quarterly planning meeting, portfolio implementation and coordination with the household's tax preparer. Replacing that relationship with a subscription requires three separate decisions, even if the lower headline price is appealing.

Existing task Completed replacement plan would name
Planning conversation The tool or professional used and the unresolved questions to bring
Portfolio implementation The person responsible for trades, contributions and review
Tax coordination The preparer or specialist who receives complete records

A plan that simply lists “AI” in every row has not assigned responsibility. Mezzi can support account-connected guidance, but that does not mean it executes trades or supplies a tax preparer's work. If you would retain human planning and tax help, include those costs in the new arrangement.

Test one actual decision before ending the old engagement: a new contribution with a known cash commitment, for example. Ask for the relevant accounts, constraints, options and missing information, then identify who would implement the decision. That produces evidence about the proposed arrangement rather than relying on a fee difference alone.

Test the new process before ending the old one

Use a supported connected view to test one recurring decision. Reconcile the inputs, add relevant goals and inspect the reasoning. Write down how implementation and follow-up would work without the current advisor.

If you decide to end a professional relationship, review the agreement and institution requirements separately. Ending advice, disconnecting an application and transferring custody are different actions. Preserve records and confirm the intended result.

The opportunity is to pay for the work you need in the form that suits you. A flat subscription can be part of that arrangement, but it does not make the remaining work disappear.

Frequently asked questions

Does subscribing to Mezzi eliminate my advisor fee?

No. Existing fees continue under the existing relationship until it is changed. Adding a subscription generally adds a cost.

Can Mezzi manage every investment for me?

Mezzi provides analysis and advice; it does not execute trades or replace custody. You implement decisions at your institutions.

How should I calculate potential savings?

Compare the complete arrangement, including incremental professional work, investment expenses and transition costs, while noting differences in service scope.

When might keeping a human advisor make sense?

When implementation, planning, coordination or support provides value that the household needs and would not reliably replace.
